Each issue of Vampirella quarterly (Harris) typically contained a reprint of an original Warren Vampirella tale, remastered and colored, as well as a new Vampirella story. There were five or six different covers of each issue. Oddly, while each issue bore a date and a number, every issue was No. 1! The unchanging number combined with the multiple covers, most of which bore neither date nor number on the cover itself, generated some degree of confusion among fans who had difficulty distinguishing each of 50-some odd issues from each other. Furthermore, while not technically part of the Vampirella quarterly series, the one-shot — Vampirella: Halloween special 2006 (on the cover, or Vampirella: 2006 Halloween special, from the masthead) — was truly the first of the series, though it did not say “quarterly” anywhere on it. However, from its the prominent seasonal date to its cover number layout, this Vampirella: Halloween special 2006 one-shot fits the bill neatly as the first Vampirella quarterly. When Harris later issued a one-volume collection of stories titled Vengeance of Vampirella: return of the Blood Red Queen (Harris) which included stories from both Vampirella: Halloween special 2006 and the first four issues of Vampirella quarterly, Harris cemented the relationship between that Halloween special and the Quarterly. Finally, though the title of the collection comes from the name of the individual stories in the first four Quarterly issues, it should not to be confused with either the Harris 1994-1996 series Vengeance of Vampirella or the Harris 1996 one-shot Vampirella & the Blood Red Queen of Hearts.
